Donald Trump has been acquitted of insurrection charges brought before the US senate.

The former President survived a 2nd impeachment trial in the senate as he was able to secure 43 ‘not guilty’ votes which were enough to acquit him of charges of inciting an insurrection on the US Capitol.

All 53 senators Democrats and seven Republicans voted to convict Trump but fell short of the two-thirds majority needed.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted in January to impeach Trump on charges that he incited an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, making him the only president in history to be impeached more than once.
