The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the establishment of 20 new private universities across the country. a memo from the Ministry of Education has confirmed.

The memo revealed that 20 new private universities will be given provisional licenses to run for three years, during which time the ministry will monitor and evaluate their progress.

With this development, the total number of private universities in the country will tally at 99.

When queried by newsmen on concerns over the quality of existing universities, the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu said Brazil has more tertiary institutions with a larger population
